This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel was published in 1960 and is best for students in high school and older. The book features families in the segregated south in a small town in Alabama. Much of the story revolves around the trial of a young black man accused of raping a white woman. Through the trial and surrounding events, the author tackles the issues of race, inequality, and class, while conveying lessons in integrity and leadership, taught best by the character Atticus Finch, a white lawyer representing the man accused.
