This novel was published in 1954 and is best for students in high school and older. The tale, still considered a challenging book for its graphic content, tells of an island inhabited and governed entirely by young English boys. The island society is violent and savage, and leads readers to explore issues of human nature versus common good, and groupthink versus individualism.
