'Star Wars' stars Mark Hamill (l.), Carrie Fisher (center), and Harrison Ford (r.).

After months of speculation about which actors would be lucky enough to become part of the cast of, the answer was finally revealed in April by way of a聽聽from Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm. Late next year, original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and more will return to the roles that聽made them famous over thirty years ago, but they鈥檒l also be joined by a slew of young actors including John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver.聽

According to reports,聽聽will play two of the film鈥檚 leads, and the pair were recently spotted filming in a remote desert in Abu Dhabi for scenes set on the sandy planet of Tatooine. Meanwhile,聽聽is rumored to be in line to play a villain of sorts 鈥 a Jedi who eventually falls to the dark side.

Then there鈥檚 also the film鈥檚 two new聽, who were recently added after reports that聽. Not much is known about Lupita Nyong鈥檕 and Gwendoline Christie鈥檚 exact roles, but perhaps聽these new rumors from聽聽can help shed some light on this and a few other questions we have about the plot of聽Star Wars: Episode VII:

  • Though John Boyega isn鈥檛 a Jedi at the beginning of 鈥楨pisode VII,鈥 he has an arc similar to Luke鈥檚 in 鈥楢 New Hope.鈥
  • There will be a female villain, probably Sith.
  • There is no New Republic at the beginning of the movie.
  • We鈥檒l see Boba Fett-esque armor at some point, though probably not on Fett himself.

As the supposed lead of聽Star Wars: Episode VII, it makes sense that Boyega鈥檚 character will聽begin the movie as essentially a nobody.聽聽that went out late last year described the lead male character as a young man lacking a聽father figure and a sense of self. No doubt his call to action and hero鈥檚 journey in聽Episode VII聽will lead him on a quest of transformation, just like how Luke was introduced to audiences and started down the path to become a Jedi in the original聽Star Wars.

Nyong鈥檕 and Christie鈥檚 place in the plot, however, is a little fuzzier. There鈥檚 been speculation that聽Nyong鈥檕 could be playing the young black or mixed-race聽. If true, this leaves Christie as the most likely candidate to become the female Sith mentioned above. As a warrior already in HBO鈥檚 hit series聽, it wouldn鈥檛 be too much of a stretch to see聽Brienne of Tarth wield a lightsaber instead of a sword.

How do you feel about these new plot and character details for聽Episode VII? Are you surprised to hear that聽Luke Skywalker聽still hasn鈥檛 established a聽New Republic?
