U.S. President Donald Trump says he will set a new 10 or 12 day deadline for Russia. During meetings with European leaders in Scotland, Mr. Trump expressed frustration over Russian President Vladimir Putin鈥檚 lack of progress in reaching a deal over the three-year war in Ukraine. Mr. Trump stated, 鈥淚鈥檓 disappointed in President Putin,鈥 threatening additional sanctions on Russia and buyers of its exports unless an agreement is reached by early September. Mr. Trump has repeatedly voiced exasperation with both Mr. Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy for not reaching an agreement to end the war.
Earlier this month, a number of European officials admitted to being moved by an exchange between Myroslava Petsa, a Ukrainian journalist, and Mr. Trump in which they detected an emotion they hadn鈥檛 previously associated with America鈥檚 president: compassion.
