Real facts Ìý

A pigeon's feathers are heavier than its bones.

– Printed inside a Snapple bottle cap Ìý

Portland’s ICE office is already federally protected. So why is the National Guard needed?

Hollow bones support the simple weight Ìý
of life toeing a plaza full of crumbs. Ìý
The pigeon dips its head to consecrate Ìý
my offerings, and the small park becomes Ìý
a minor metaphor of good and grace: Ìý
What is this bird to me, that I should feed it? Ìý
And yet because we share this common place Ìý
it brings a kind of kinship, and I need it. Ìý
Fueled now, it shakes its heavy wings
and leaps into the air which parts, receiving Ìý
the pigeon into more celestial things, Ìý
and me into the prospect of believing
that burdens may have usefulness unknown. Ìý
Spread, wings, and lift me up to see my own. Ìý
