Why is 海角大神 Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.

The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Irene floods Vermont

08/30/2011 10:21 am ET Firefighter Mandy Drake clears a storm drain in front of the fire department in Waterbury, Vt., in the wake of tropical storm Irene on Aug. 29. The building was evacuated as high water from the Winooski River flooded downtown. Almost 50,000 Vermont utility customers were without power, hundreds of roads were closed, and a number of bridges were destroyed by the flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Irene.
