10 of TIME's 100 'most influential'

What does it mean to be influential today? TIME Magazine may not have a scientific answer, but they identified scores of people in their 2012 鈥100 Most Influential People in the World鈥 list, released this week. Here is a sampling of 10 people from around the world who made the cut.

Adele, singer/songwriter

British-born Adele first crept onto the music scene in 2007 when she was referred to as 鈥渢he next Amy Winehouse,鈥 but by 2009 she made a name for herself, winning Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.  By 2011, the release of her second album 鈥淩olling in the Deep鈥 made Adele a household name, she won six Grammy awards in 2012 and her album sales reached 10 million.

鈥淕o to Mars right now and I'm pretty sure if there is life on that planet, they're playing Adele,鈥 said singer Pink, who . 鈥淎nd for good reason.鈥 Adele is known for her deep and soulful singing, reported influenced by the likes of Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald.
