Hugo Chavez: 10 outrageous things he said about the US

Hugo Chavez, whose death was announced Tuesday, will be remembered worldwide as much for what he said as for what he did during his 14-year rule of Venezuela. From the vitriolic to bizarre, here is a list of 10 outrageous comments he made about the 鈥淵ankee empire鈥� and its leaders.

5. Finish off the US empire

Ch谩vez often encouraged other nations to rise up and overthrow what he saw as US imperialism. Among his closest allies: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

鈥淟et鈥檚 save the human race, let's finish off the US empire,鈥� Ch谩vez said during a trip to Iran. 鈥淭his [task] must be assumed with strength by the majority of the peoples of the world.鈥�

Mr. Ahmadinejad awarded Ch谩vez with Iran's highest state medal in July 2006 for his support during Tehran鈥檚 resistance to an International Atomic Energy Agency resolution, which called for Iran to report its nuclear activity to the United Nations Security Council.
