The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

In a closely followed and hotly contested campaign, Representative Herseth Sandlin lost by two percentage points to Kristi Noem, a member of the South Dakota House and one of Sarah Palin鈥檚 鈥渕ama grizzlies.鈥�
Herseth Sandlin served three full terms (she was initially elected in a 2004 special election) as South Dakota鈥檚 lone House representative. In her most recent elections, she won 69 percent of the vote (2006) and 68 percent (2008).
