The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Representative Halvorson served one term before losing Tuesday to Air Force pilot and local tea party favorite Adam Kinzinger, a political newcomer. She had 43 percent of the vote to Mr. Kinzinger鈥檚 57 percent.
In 2008, she won Illinois鈥� open 11th District (a swing district in Chicago鈥檚 south suburbs) in 2008 by a landslide: 58 percent over Republican Marty Ozinga鈥檚 34 percent.
