Gaining Time
My daughter is the careless edge 听
Of smile I wear, a facial shrug that lays aside
The done and not. 听
She is the now of just 听
A minute, the stamping foot of childhood 听
That demands the ever present. 听
Her gift to me is simple: 听
She can dimple time, the way 听
Other children press a chocolate's center 听
To guess its flavor, 听
Laughing so hard that time capitulates. 听
There's a momentary crumple, it bends, 听
Rebounds, and I've gained 听
A second on the world.
