George Seaton's 1947 film stars Maureen O'Hara and Natalie Wood as a mother and daughter who befriend a man named Kris (Edmund Gwenn) who is working as Santa Claus at a Macy's department store in New York. When Kris insists he is the actual Santa Claus, he runs into doubt from others.
Wood would grow up to star in the 1961 films "West Side Story" and "Splendor in the Grass," among others.
Other actors who have taken on the role of Kris in other "Miracle" adaptations include "It's a Wonderful Life" actor Thomas Mitchell, "Mary Poppins" actor Ed Wynn, and Richard Attenborough.
