The 1951 version was directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and starred actor Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge, a greedy man whose business partner, Jacob Marley, returns from the grave to warn him to beware of his selfish ways. Scrooge is visited by three spirits 鈥 the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come 鈥 who impress upon him the importance of loving others.
Charles Dickens' classic tale has been adapted many times with actors as varied as George C. Scott, Michael Caine, and Bill Murray taking the role of Scrooge and versions receiving new spins such as being set in modern day and having the rest of the cast be played by Muppets.
Hurst's version adds a new plotline in which Scrooge worked when he was younger under a man named Mr. Jorkin who is later discovered to be an embezzler.
