The movie, released in 2003, starred Mike Myers as the Cat in the Hat and Dakota Fanning as the young girl named Sally. The film recouped its budget through foreign box office, but received mostly negative reviews from critics. And Dr. Seuss's widow Audrey Geisel disliked the movie, stating after its release that she wouldn't authorize any other live-action Seuss adaptations. Near the end of the film, a piece of the house falls behind Myers, but during filming, Myers was not told previously that this would happen, and his surprised reaction is real.
