'Friends' cast, other TV comedy actors will honor sitcom director

The ensemble from the NBC sitcom 'Friends' as well as other actors are set to appear on a TV special honoring James Burrows, who has helmed episodes of such shows as 'Taxi,' Cheers,' and 'Frasier.'

Cast members from the NBC sitcom 鈥淔riends鈥� and others from some of the network鈥檚 comedies are scheduled to appear on a TV special honoring sitcom director James Burrows.

Burrows has directed episodes of such programs as 鈥淭axi,鈥� 鈥淐heers,鈥� 鈥淔rasier,鈥� and 鈥淔riends鈥� as well as non-NBC shows such as 鈥淭he Mary Tyler Moore Show,鈥� 鈥淭he Bob Newhart Show,鈥� and 鈥淟averne & Shirley.鈥�

The special is honoring his thousandth episode, which is an installment of NBC鈥檚 program 鈥淐rowded,鈥� a sitcom starring Patrick Warburton and Carrie Preston that is scheduled to air later this year on the network.聽

The special honoring Burrows will air on Feb. 21.聽

All six of the main ensemble of 鈥淔riends鈥� will appear on the special, according to the . The news has attracted particular notice, as fans have been eager for a reunion of the stars since the classic show went off the air in 2004.聽

Cast members from some of the other shows that Burrows has directed are also set to be on the program.聽

Burrows directed installments of some of NBC鈥檚 most famous comedies, with shows such as 鈥淔riends,鈥� 鈥淐heers,鈥� and 鈥淲ill & Grace鈥� serving as part of NBC鈥檚 famous 鈥渕ust-see TV鈥� Thursday night lineup.聽

Shows that appeared on this lineup over the years also include 鈥淪einfeld,鈥� 鈥淭he Cosby Show,鈥� 鈥淢ad About You,鈥� and 鈥淓R.鈥澛�

While the "must-see TV" shows are some of the network's most famous comedies, NBC has now shifted mostly to drama programs following struggles with viewership for its new comedies. Some new comedy shows will premiere on the network this year. 鈥淐rowded鈥� and 鈥淵ou, Me & The Apocalypse鈥� are聽 two of the new shows planned.聽

New comedies 鈥淭elenovela鈥� and 鈥淪uperstore鈥� also recently made their debut on the network.聽

In addition, NBC is premiering original comedy content via its streaming service, Seeso, which launched Jan. 7. In addition to serving as a destination for some of NBC鈥檚 prior content like 鈥�30 Rock鈥� and 鈥淪aturday Night Live,鈥� the network is offering new shows as well on Seeso, including programs such as 鈥淗armonQuest鈥� and 鈥淭he UCB Show.鈥�
