Nicki Minaj: What would a TV show based on her childhood mean for ABC Family?

ABC Family is reportedly producing a show based on the childhood of rapper Nicki Minaj.聽
The network has given a to a comedy show about Ms. Minaj鈥檚 early life. It will center on Minaj鈥檚 childhood in Queens, her family, and how she become a successful musician.聽
鈥淭he Back-Up Plan鈥� and 鈥淲ill & Grace鈥� writer Kate Angelo is reportedly on board as a writer.聽
Minaj revealed聽that she will be writing raps for the younger version of herself to perform on the ABC Family show.聽
Minaj鈥檚 most recent album is 鈥淭he Pinkprint,鈥� which she debuted in December. At the most recent Grammy Awards, she was nominated for best rap song for her work 鈥淎naconda鈥� and shared a nomination for best pop duo/group performance with Ariana Grande and Jessie J for the song 鈥淏ang Bang.鈥澛�
Her other hit singles include 鈥淪uper Bass鈥� and 鈥淪tarships.鈥� She also briefly served as a judge on the Fox reality competition 鈥淎merican Idol.鈥�
As for the network at which Minaj鈥檚 project has landed, ABC Family has become more of a pop culture presence over the last several years. One of its biggest hits is the program 鈥淧retty Little Liars,鈥� which is based on the series of books of the same name by Sara Shepard. The show is currently in the middle of its sixth season. This past summer, a much-hyped episode led to the program becoming the cable program for adults between 18 and 49聽on the night it aired.
Past programs like 鈥淭he Secret Life of the American Teenager,鈥� which debuted in 2008, ran for five seasons, and starred Shailene Woodley and Molly Ringwald, and 鈥淜yle XY,鈥� which debuted in 2006 and ran for three seasons, also became hits for ABC Family.聽
The network recently premiered the comedy 鈥淜evin from Work鈥� as well as reality shows such as 鈥淪tartup U.鈥�
A new show with Minaj will obviously be a high-profile project and could mean even more attention for the network.
