Syria plans to hold parliamentary elections in September.
The head of the election organizing body told state media Sunday that the elections will occur between September 15 and 20. These will be the first elections since the fall of former President Bashar Assad in December. Interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa will appoint one-third of the 210 seats, with the rest elected. An electoral college will be set up in each province. The announcement comes amid sectarian violence in the southern province of Sweida.
