The typical out-of-pocket cost for an IUD, according to Planned Parenthood. The IUD is one of the forms of contraception that Hobby Lobby鈥檚 ownership objected to covering. An estimated 180 million women worldwide use IUDs, including 15 percent of women who are married or living with a partner. By and large, medical professionals consider IUDs the most effective reversible long-term method of contraception. It has a high upfront cost that includes a doctor鈥檚 visit.
"It bears note 鈥� that the cost of an IUD is nearly equivalent to a month's full-time pay for workers earning the minimum wage," Justice Ginsburg wrote in her dissenting opinion.
In the United States, IUD use has increased 75 percent since 2008.
