This biography by "Pimping Fictions" writer Gifford examines the life of Iceberg Slim, a man who worked as a pimp and later published a memoir about that time ("Pimp") as well as novels such as "Mama Black Widow." This is "a rough book," says Nelson. "It's not prettied up." But she notes that the impact Slim has had on popular culture makes the book "a sort of social history."
