The author, an Emmy Award-winning television writer-producer, counts himself among the zealous Seahawk fans who constitute the team鈥檚 鈥�12th Man.鈥� His account of the team鈥檚 championship season is in the form of a personal diary.
鈥淲e all go through periods of our life when darkness seems to cover us. No one is immune. It could be a romantic heartbreak. Unemployment. The death of someone close. Health problems. But one thing we always have are the Seahawks. Every fall, the Hawks give us 16 games (at least!) to make us feel we鈥檙e part of something bigger.
鈥淭hirty-eight seasons seems like a long time to wait to win a championship. But if you look at three of the last four football dynasties, you鈥檒l see that patience was a necessary quality. It took the Steelers 42 seasons before they won a championship. The 49ers waited 36 seasons to win a title. The Patriots started in 1960, but it wasn鈥檛 until 2001 that they were finally victorious.
鈥淟ike those teams, the Seahawks have the makings of a dynasty. Whether it will happen, no one knows for sure at this point. However, I trust [coach] Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider to keep this party going. The 12th Man is having too much fun to turn out the lights.鈥�
