After hearing about the dangers of stress, Jacobs went to a laughter club, where participants are encouraged to laugh often to relieve life's problems. There isn't any joke-telling 鈥 Jacobs' instructor said humor varies too much from person to person for that to be effective 鈥 just laughing whenever prompted. Jacobs said he felt awkward, but that it was interesting. "I walk home, flushed, a bit elated.... but also relieved not to have to laugh on command," he wrote.
