Yosemite climber falls: Two helicopters fly climber to safety

Yosemite: Climber falls while climbing with a partner on the Yosemite's Cathedral range.

Authorities say a rock climber at聽Yosemite聽National Park had to be rescued by helicopter after falling 30 feet and suffering major injuries.

The 26-year-old man from Palo Alto, Calif., fell before noon on Sunday while climbing with a partner on the park's Cathedral range. The California Highway Patrol says park officials asked the CHP to fly a pair of Yosemite聽Search and Rescue specialists to the injured man.

The helicopter took him to the park's floor at El Capitan Meadow. Another helicopter waiting there then took him to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

The US used to be a haven for research. Now, scientists are packing their bags.

Officer Johnny Fisher of the California Highway Patrol says this was the second helicopter rescue in聽Yosemite within two weeks.
