FOXBOROUGH, Mass.
A person familiar with the decision says the聽NFL聽has聽fined聽New England Patriots quarterback Tom聽Brady聽$10,000 for kicking Baltimore Ravens defender Ed Reed during Sunday's AFC championship game.
The聽fine聽was first announced on NFL.com. An official with knowledge of the penalty confirmed it to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because it had not been announced.
On a first-and-goal near the end of the second quarter,聽Brady聽was forced out of the pocket to his left. He ran for 3 yards but slid before he could be tackled. In the process, he raised his right leg and kicked Reed in the thigh.
Brady聽reportedly apologized to Reed in a text message.
Patriots spokesman Stacey James says he has no information on the聽fine. A message was left seeking comment from聽NFL聽spokesman Michael Signora.
The Ravens won 28-13 to advance to the Super Bowl.
