Simplicity
A poem.

Simplicity As if to change my mind, to keep me here,
Ìýthat rose put on a show this year!
ÌýShe budded far too soon – in early May –
Ìýand seemed to know I could or would not stay
Ìýmy hand, but needs must pick a small
ÌýÌýÌýÌý bouquet
Ìýto sit beside me through my busy day.
ÌýIt drew my eyes – their every upward glance
Ìýwas caught by roses bending in a dance.
ÌýThe chorus flared their ruffled skirts at me,
Ìýand, waiting to unfurl her frock, I'd see
Ìýthe premièreÌýdanseuse, a tapered bud
Ìýof Renoir blush that whispered ardent blood.
ÌýRomantic fallacy? Of course, I know.
ÌýBut still, that rose was putting on a show.
