Birthday PoemÌý
The old girl stirs and rattles her tags
creaking down the stairs
Ìýstiff and slow
Ìýnature calls
ÌýI slip out of the warmth of covers
Ìýreluctantly following
Ìýa pact we
Ìýmade
Ìýyears ago
ÌýCaught in the wonder of the evening sky
Ìýresplendent with stars
Ìýperfectly aligned
ÌýAbove the dark chilled air
ÌýI somnolently ponder
Ìýlight-years
Ìýand time
ÌýAnd how brief our shine here
Ìýas she sniffs at the grass
ÌýI'm thankful for this moment
ÌýUnder the swirl of the Milky Way
Ìýmore permanent and eternal
Ìýthan my old dog and I
