Greensound

A poem.

March 17, 2008

'The sweetest music is the music of what happens.'
– Finn McCool, legendary hero of old Ireland

The Irish ear
loves to hear,
or rather, feel
the peal of bells.

Sparrow chirp,
tea slurp;
someone's joy
a crying boy.

Gull yap
over wave slap –
can't get enough
of that.

Cows' lowing,
geese going,
leaves in
the wind.

A child's laugh,
the poet's word,
the old tongue
overheard.

No fool
that Finn McCool:
said the best tune
is what's doin'.
