Showtime series 'Penny Dreadful' brings together favorite Victorian literary characters
'Dreadful' include such characters as Victor Frankenstein and Mina Harker of 'Dracula.'

Showtime鈥檚 new TV series 鈥淧enny Dreadful鈥� doesn鈥檛 just center on one famous literary character.
鈥淒readful,鈥� which is set in Victorian London, stars 鈥淭he Lone Ranger鈥� actor Harry Treadaway as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, 鈥淪pider-Man: Turn Off the Dark鈥� actor Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray, Rory Kinnear of 鈥淪kyfall鈥� as Frankenstein鈥檚 creature, and 鈥淧irate Radio鈥� actress Olivia Llewellyn as Count Dracula鈥檚 love interest Mina Harker, among others.
鈥淚 thought there was incredible excitement to slamming all those myths together,鈥� creator John Logan told .
While the show is violent and many of the characters on the show are known in literature for their villainous ways, Logan said 鈥淒readful鈥� has a gentler side as well.
鈥淚t鈥檚 about building a family,鈥� he said. 鈥淎dmittedly, the creepiest family you can imagine.鈥澛�
鈥淒readful鈥� premieres on May 11.
