'Daughter of Smoke and Bone' film rights acquired by Universal
'Daughter of Smoke and Bone,' one of 2011's most popular young adult novels, could be adapted into a film by Universal Pictures
'Daughter of Smoke and Bone' tells the story of Karou, an art student who meets an angel and begins to learn the truth about the world around her.
Universal Pictures has acquired the worldwide rights to the well-reviewed young adult novel 鈥淒aughter of Smoke and Bone鈥� by Laini Taylor, it was announced last week.
鈥淢y goal is always to write stories that readers will want to climb inside of and聽live in, and which 鈥� I hope 鈥� will allow them to just lose themselves in the page,鈥� Taylor said in a statement about the possible movie adaptation. 鈥淚t is a hugely thrilling prospect to think about Universal and filmmakers translating my world onscreen and giving it a second life in such a grand way.聽I鈥檓 over the moon.鈥�
鈥淒aughter鈥� came out in September and made Amazon鈥檚 list of the best books of 2011 as well as Publishers Weekly鈥檚. The story centers on Karou, an art student living in Prague who is forced to do the bidding of a demon but soon begins questioning her world when she meets a mysterious angel.
The book by Taylor, who also wrote the two books that so far make up the Dreamdark series, has been announced to be the first of a trilogy. The next book is scheduled for release next September.
