Group of US scientists calls 'star wars' unworkable, risky
President Reagan's ''star wars'' proposal won't work and shouldn't be tried because it might lead to nuclear war, a group of scientists said Monday. Nobel laureate physicist Hans Bethe said he is ''quite convinced that we do not know a single way to realize the goal of President Reagan,'' who has called for research into methods of creating a defense against incoming nuclear missiles. The news conference was held under the auspices of the Mondale-Ferraro campaign.
