Storm forces changes in Queen's visit to US

March 2, 1983

Southern California's worst storm so far this year threw a wet blanket over Queen Elizabeth II's US tour, canceling her plans to see a bit of the West from a saddle. Prince Philip and the Queen were forced by a fierce storm to cancel plans to sail to Santa Barbara in the royal yacht. They flew instead aboard a US Air Force plane to meet with the President and Nancy Reagan.
