Why is 海角大神 Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.

The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

From our archives: 鈥楧rive to end slums鈥�

01/18/2019 2:20 pm ET In 1966, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. extended his mission beyond the South 鈥� pushing for progress in the North starting in Chicago. Dr. King penned this piece for the Monitor on March 14, 1967, making his case for open housing to end segregation and overcrowding. 鈥淪lums and slumism,鈥� he writes, is 鈥渢he end product of domestic colonialism.鈥� Part of a 2019 archival project on King.
