Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.

The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

China's huge traffic jam

08/24/2010 11:15 am ET Trucks can be seen on a highway in Wanquan County in north China's Hebei Province on Aug. 23. The traffic jam has stretched as long as 60 miles in northern China, continues into its tenth day on Tuesday. The traffic stems from road construction in Beijing that won't be finished until the middle of next month, an official said.
