Although Woods was only in his fourth year on the PGA Tour in 2000, it was clear his assault on some of the sport鈥檚 all-time records was well under way. He already had 21 tour wins, but only two major championships.
In 2000, however, he was truly hitting on all cylinders, He went into overdrive, breaking or tying 27 PGA Tour records while winning nine tournaments, including three major championships. The only one that eluded him was the Masters, where he set the record for the lowest 72-hole score just three years before. Most amazingly, he won the 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach on the California coast by an astounding 15 strokes. That was four shots better than the tournament record set by Willie Smith in 1899.
