The first-ever NCAA tournament in 1939 was an eight-team affair held in Northwestern University鈥檚 Patten Gymnasium. The University of Oregon鈥檚 鈥淭all Firs鈥� beat Ohio State, 46-33, before 15,025 fans. Although Northwestern won what passed for a national championship in 1933, it has never made it into the NCAA tournament.
