Government shutdown 101: 12 ways it could affect you

With Congress failing to fund the federal government by Oct. 1, the start of the new fiscal year, the government has gone into partial shutdown. Here is a list of what's open, and what isn't, during the shutdown.

5. What will happen to the National Zoo鈥檚 baby panda?

Stay calm, the National Zoo's baby panda will be fed during the government shutdown.

All the zoo鈥檚 animals will still be fed and cared for, although they're not available for public viewing. The month-old baby panda is still nursing, but her mother, Mei Xiang, will of course be fed. But the giant panda cam 鈥 the that allows obsessive panda-watchers to track mama and baby (while pretending to work) 鈥 has gone dark. Volunteers run the video cameras.

As The Washington Post points out, panda addicts will have to make do with the of a baby panda sneezing.
