Senate 2016: the 10 hottest races

The battle for control of the Senate is heating up. Here are the hottest races.

8. Colorado: Michael Bennet (D), incumbent

Then-Democratic candidate for Senate from Colorado, Michael Bennet, talks with the media at the Marriott in Denver on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010.

Senator Bennet pulled off an improbable election victory in 2010, the first year of the tea party wave. It helped that he drew the ultra-conservative Ken Buck (R) as his opponent, and that Mr. Buck had some positions that were easy to lampoon, such as support for 鈥渂irther鈥 legislation. Also, Bennet ran a smart campaign in political battleground Colorado.

Republicans are now eager to knock off Bennet, but so far don鈥檛 have a top-tier candidate. Rep. Mike Coffman (R) has announced he won鈥檛 run.

Cook, Sabato, and Rothenberg-Gonzales all call the race lean Democrat.
