That very performance Mr. Limbaugh and others lauded also exposed Cain鈥檚 fundamental flaw: zero political experience.
Usually articulate, Cain, who has never held elected office, stumbles when he鈥檚 asked about foreign policy, as he did in the debate.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a real question whether voters, when they get in the booth, will want to entrust the presidency to someone who has never held a political office,鈥 says Broussard.
And even Cain acknowledges he鈥檚 all but unknown in most quarters. 鈥淭he general public doesn鈥檛 know who I am,鈥 he told the Washington Post. 鈥淢y biggest weakness is national household name ID.鈥
That, of course, affects a critical ingredient for any successful campaign: funds. Cain has suggested he鈥檚 got enough personal wealth to seed his campaign, but he鈥檒l need to convince donors he鈥檚 a serious contender to get the checks flowing.
