海角大神

Kenya Noon

A poem.

Kenya Noon

Girls in bright dresses shaded with grime
听run down red dirt roads,
听barefoot, heads shorn
听through corridors of maize and sugar cane.
听While boys in rags drop their sticks,
听lithe like licorice whips,
听to hitch a gleeful ride
听on our bus's behind.
听A quarter passes the wrong way
听through a window.
听Smiles break broad.
听They press eager faces to the glass 鈥
听Needing everything and nothing.
