Shawn Mendes, a popular singer who gained visibility through the social media platform Vine, has released one more work this year, with his 鈥淟ive at Madison Square Garden鈥� album now available.

Mr. Mendes released his album 鈥淚lluminate鈥� this fall and had also released a 2015 work, 鈥淗andwritten.鈥� The singer is behind such hit singles as 鈥淪titches鈥� and 鈥淭reat You Better,鈥� the latter of which reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.

His 鈥淟ive鈥� album was recorded during Mendes鈥檚 Sept. 10 show.聽

Mendes became better-known after posting performances on Vine, a social media platform that allowed users to post six-second videos. (The platform will now have users post these videos on Twitter.)

The singer is one of various stars that first became known on social media and have then jumped to success in more traditional channels. One of the most famous is singer Justin Bieber, who was seen on YouTube by those in the music industry. 鈥淟et Me Love You,鈥� a song by DJ Snake to which Mr. Bieber contributes, is currently ranked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Bieber has had a very successful year on the charts, with his songs 鈥淟ove Yourself鈥� and 鈥淪orry鈥� both reaching number one this year and songs to which he contributed, such as 鈥淐old Water鈥� by Major Lazer, also appearing in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 this year.聽

Netflix is one TV outlet that has bet on social media stars, this year in particular. The YouTube comedian Colleen Ballinger, who stars in the popular YouTube series 鈥淢iranda Sings," stars in the Netflix series 鈥淗aters Back Off,鈥� which premiered this fall. And Vine star Cameron Dallas is at the center of the upcoming Netflix reality show 鈥淐hasing Cameron,鈥� which will debut later this month.
