鈥淪aturday Night Live鈥 stars Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are returning to Studio 8H.
Poehler and Fey will reportedly co-host the show on Dec. 19, with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band serving as the musical guest. Poehler and Fey鈥檚 comedy 鈥淪isters鈥 opens on Dec. 18.
Fey started as a writer at 鈥淪NL鈥 in 1997 and later became a cast member and co-anchor of the 鈥淪NL鈥 鈥淲eekend Update鈥 segment, departing in 2006. Poehler joined as a cast member in 2001 and left in 2008.
In addition to Fey and Poehler鈥檚 appearance, the Dec. 5 episode will be hosted by actor Ryan Gosling and actor Chris Hemsworth will host on Dec. 12. Leon Bridges will perform as the musical guest on the Dec. 5 installment and Chance the Rapper will perform on the Dec. 12 episode.
Fey and Poehler have both been involved in incredibly successful projects while they were at,聽and since leaving, 鈥淪NL.鈥 Both starred in and Fey wrote the 2004 comedy 鈥淢ean Girls,鈥 which the Writers Guild of America recently named as having one of the best screenplays of all time.聽
Fey created and starred in the NBC TV series 鈥30 Rock,鈥 which aired for seven seasons and won multiple Emmy Awards. She co-created the Netflix show 鈥淯nbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,鈥 which aired its first season earlier this year and was nominated for the best comedy series Emmy. She returned to 鈥淪NL鈥 to portray then-vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, a performance that was most likely the most memorable political satire done by 鈥淪NL鈥 in recent memory.聽
Poehler starred in and served as a writer for the NBC sitcom 鈥淧arks and Recreation,鈥 which also aired for seven seasons. She recently voiced one of the lead characters in Pixar鈥檚 hit 鈥淚nside Out,鈥 which was released this past summer, and starred in the Netflix TV series 鈥淲et Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,鈥 which was a prequel to the 2001 comedy 鈥淲et Hot American Summer.鈥澛
Fey and Poehler also hosted the Golden Globes multiple times and their stints were popular ones.
As it has since its inception, 鈥淪NL鈥 continues to be a way for comedians starting out to gain exposure and, often, become involved with film opportunities. Members of the original 鈥淪NL鈥 cast like Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, and John Belushi quickly hit it big with movies like 鈥淎nimal House,鈥 鈥淭he Blues Brothers,鈥 and 鈥淐addyshack.鈥
It鈥檚 a pattern that鈥檚 continued over the decades and three of the four leads in the highly anticipated new 鈥淕hostbusters鈥 film are from 鈥淪NL.鈥 While 鈥淕hostbusters鈥 star Kristen Wiig is a former cast member, actresses Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are still on the show. McKinnon debuted on 鈥淪NL鈥 in 2012, while Jones is a comparative newbie, having just been named a cast member on the NBC program late last year.
