Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.

The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Senate advanced measure to rein in Trump on Venezuela.

The resolution would bar President Donald Trump from taking further military action against Venezuela without congressional authorization, paving the way for further consideration in the chamber. The vote was 52 to 47, as a handful of Mr. Trump鈥檚 fellow Republicans voted with every Democrat in favor of moving ahead.聽U.S. forces captured Venezuelan President Nicol谩s Maduro in a military raid in Caracas last weekend. Two previous attempts to advance similar resolutions were blocked in the Senate last year by Republicans.
