Ex-deputy found guilty of murder in Sonya Massey shooting.

An Illinois jury on Wednesday found a former sheriff鈥檚 deputy guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of an unarmed Black woman in her home in a case that drew national attention. Sean Grayson, who was dismissed from his job with the Sangamon County Sheriff鈥檚 Office, had been charged with three counts of first-degree murder after firing three shots at Sonya Massey in her Springfield home in July 2024, according to the indictment. But the judge also gave the jury the option of finding Mr. Grayson guilty of the lesser charge.
