The American pianist earned first prize at the Warsaw contest, which honors Poland鈥檚 beloved composer Fryderyk Chopin. Inspired by the Olympic Games when it was founded in 1927, the International Chopin Piano Competition is held once every five years and is among the world鈥檚 most prestigious 鈥 and one of the few devoted entirely to a single composer鈥檚 music. This year鈥檚 event drew 84 pianists from 19 countries, all under 30.
