Will author Thomas Pynchon make a cameo in the movie 'Inherent Vice'?
Will author Thomas Pynchon soon be appearing on the big screen?
Pynchon, who is the writer behind such novels as 鈥淕ravity鈥檚 Rainbow,鈥� 鈥淏leeding Edge,鈥� and 鈥淭he Crying of Lot 49,鈥� is having his novel 鈥淚nherent Vice鈥� adapted as a film by 鈥淭he Master鈥� director Paul Thomas Anderson. The cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Benicio del Toro, and many more.聽
Brolin recently told the that Pynchon himself will be appearing in the film as well 鈥� interesting trivia considering, according to , there isn鈥檛 even a picture of the writer that鈥檚 less than 50 years old.
Brolin discussed the author鈥檚 time on set. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 think anybody knew [he was there],鈥� the actor told the NYT. 鈥淗e came on as the kind of mercurial iconoclast he is. He stayed in the corner.鈥�
Anderson, who also adapted the novel for the screen, wouldn鈥檛 discuss whether the cameo was happening or not. 鈥淚鈥檓 staying out of it,鈥� he told the NYT. 鈥淣o. No. I just鈥� Somebody spent a long time deciding not to have themselves out there. There鈥檚 a reason for that. So I鈥檓 just going to step out of that.鈥�
The movie centers on Larry Sportello (Phoenix), a detective who comes to learn about the life of real estate businessman Mickey Wolfmann (Eric Roberts), the new romantic interest of his ex-girlfriend Shasta (Katherine Waterston).
鈥淰ice鈥� is being released on Dec. 12 and it鈥檚 being brought up as a possibility for Oscar prizes, though many industry watchers are withholding judgment until the movie鈥檚 released. writer Peter Knegt says the film is a 鈥渟trong contender鈥� (at least on paper)鈥� for a Best Picture nomination and David Sims of writes of 鈥淰ice,鈥� 鈥淓very upcoming P.T. Anderson project requires our attention even if half the time they end up missing at the Oscars.鈥�
