(The Monitor has not reviewed these selections.)

3. 'The Largesse of the Sea Maiden' (Jan. 16) by Denis Johnson

鈥淭he Largesse of the Sea Maiden鈥 by Denis Johnson, Random House, 225 pp.

This highly anticipated story collection is from National Book award winner and two time Pulitzer Prize-finalist Denis Johnson, who died in May 2017. Bookseller Jan Weissmiller says that Mr. Johnson鈥檚 story collection 鈥淛esus鈥 Son鈥 is a 鈥減erennial best seller鈥 at Prairie Lights. The collection 鈥渦nderscores how grevious the loss was for literature,鈥 showing the ways in which Johnson was 鈥渟ubtly pushing his craft in new directions,鈥 Steve Donoghue writes for the Monitor.

(Jan. 16) by Denis Johnson was recommended by Jan Weissmiller, owner of Prairie Lights in Iowa City.
