In 2013 war correspondent Badkhen (author of "The World Is a Carpet") walked across Mali鈥檚 savannah with the nomadic Fulani people. Her book about the experience beautifully considers a wide range of delightful and important topics: ruminations on African history, the relations between the Fulani and other ethnic groups, the sometimes fickle camaraderie between men and cows, and the ever-expanding encroachment of the modern world on an ancient way of life.
