“These are the hottest days of summer. As I go along the road, I feel the heat rising from the tarmac. Sun. Dust. Flies. Blue skies. It is too hot in the heat of the day for moving sheep, something we would have scarcely believed possible for the past eight or nine months of cold weather. By midday the sheep will be panting, or hiding in the nooks and crannies for shade, and we will miss lots of them."
