"Away" writer Bloom's novel centers on two half-sisters: Iris, who dreams of becoming a movie star, and Eva, who idolizes her. The two travel across America in the 1940s, encountering wealthy Long Islanders, denizens of Hollywood, and others. "There are a lot of interesting characters," Nelson says of the novel. "What [Bloom] is great at is the language, the idioms of the time.... I could hear my parents' voices."
