Edward O. Wilson tells the story of Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique, which boasts one of the densest wildlife populations in Africa. During the 1978-1982 civil war, much of the park鈥檚 ecosystem was destroyed and its animal populations severely depleted. But now an audacious effort by wealthy American entrepreneur Gregory C. Carr is slowly bringing the park back to life. Wilson鈥檚 text, along with photos by Piotr Gorongosa, tells a story of renewal, suggesting that our tired planet, managed wisely, has an enormous capacity for regeneration.
