Landscape historian Mac Griswold literally stumbled onto this story one day while she was out canoeing near the Hamptons. She was first attracted to some ancient boxwods (remember, this woman is a landscape historian) but then her attention was drawn to the mansion hiding behind them. Curiosity aroused, she eventually came to know the property's owners and to learn its fascinating history, dating back to before the Revolutionary War and including 鈥� yes, on Long Island 鈥� a history of slavery.
